Artistic Binding on:
Sonia Delauney and Blaise Cendrars, La Prose du Transsibérien, Two Hands Press, 2018.
Bound in 2020.
The original 1913 edition of La Prose du Transsibérien is one of the most innovative books of all times. This re-creation in letterpress and pochoir of the original La Prose du Transsibérien is the extraordinary achievement of book artist Kitty Maryatt of Two Hands Press.
The original poetry and artwork of La Prose du Transsiberien are disjointed, fragmented and enthralling. The conflicts and mysteries of life appear in the jagged and jarring words and colors careening across the accordion folds. The binding captures the crisp imagery and shunting movement of the text as the train stops and starts across Russia. Two seminal quotes from Cendrar’s poetry animate the front and back boards.
THIS BINDING IS FOR SALE FOR $6000.
The text sheets were adhered to one another and folded in an accordion.
Pink and blue leather decorated with gold, metallic foil, and inset panels of blue paua shell veneer.
Edge-to-edge doublures of blue Roma handmade paper.
Signed and dated in gold on the inside front board.
Created in 2020.
