Protective enclosure for a stamp from the Stamp Act of 1765.
The stamp is on blue paper mounted on a slightly oversized off-white paper, with a small Royal emblem mounted on the verso. The verso of the mounting paper is discolored from the adhesive used to mount the small print.
The client requested that the stamp be mounted in a double mat that would remain loose within the enclosure. He also requested full leather clamshell box with a clear opening on the cover to view the stamp enclose within.
A full leather clamshell box was built with a Mylar window, allowing viewing of the stamp inside. The trays were lined with marbled paper and there is a ribbon to lift the matted stamp from the tray. The box was titled and decorated in gold on the spine.
