Protective enclosure for a pierced vellum binding on Pierre Mac Orlan’s Nuits Aux Bouges, 1929.
In order to counter the tendency of the boards on a vellum binding distorting over time with changes of relative humidity, the clamshell box has a small lip added to the fore edge of the inner tray.
This will compress the fore edge and lessen the likelihood that the boards will cup over time.
