“Manuscript waste binding” on Faustus Andrelinus, De influentia siderum, Paris: Denis Roche, [1497-1499].
The client requested that this incunabulum pamphlet be bound in “manuscript waste” as was common in the period for cheaper bindings. For this project, a new vellum manuscript leaf was created by calligrapher Maryanne Grebenstein.
Conservation treatment:
The folds were mended with kozo paper using wheat starch paste.
There is a single bifolio of Griffen Mill handmade Falcon paper as flyleaves.
The single section was attached to the vellum cover using two vellum tackets.
