Conservation of: W.H. Prescott, History of the Reign of Ferdinand and Isabella, Boston, 1838, 3 volumes.
Condition: Publisher’s cloth case bindings with loose or dangling spines. The boards remain attached. Two volumes have loose sections at the center.
Conservation treatment: The spines were cleaned using a poultice of methyl cellulose. The loose sections were linked back on using linen thread. The spines were lined with kozo paper and Rives paper using wheat starch paste. The bindings were rebacked using laminated kozo paper using 50/50 Jade 403 PVA/methyl cellulose. The original spines were re-adhered using Jade 403 PVA. The bindings were touched up as needed using acrylic pigments.
