JAMES REID-CUNNINGHAM
nuitsbox1

Protective enclosure for a pierced vellum binding on Pierre Mac Orlan’s Nuits Aux Bouges, 1929.

In order to counter the tendency of the boards on a vellum binding distorting over time with changes of relative humidity, the clamshell box has a small lip added to the fore edge of the inner tray. This will compress the fore edge and lessen the likelihood that the boards will cup over time.

The binding can be viewed here.
